Where are we?

So I went to visit my parents this weekend and found some old poems in a dusty booklet. It's a fascinating read - a glimpse into the mind of a 22 year old me. Enjoy.

Where are the voices?
the heroes who fight for justice
in the midst of war, of terror for terror
where are those who stand for all the right choices?

They attacked our cities so we destroyed theirs
they can't build nukes although we have ours
how can we feel safe with them on the loose?
so with our might we do as we choose?

Where are the saints?
those whom this world has failed to taint
the salt of the earth who bring light to injustice
where are you while innocents in refuge camps wait?

The target is Bin Laden
somewhere in the desert we're sure he's hiding
a flash of light; we're in Iraq
where's the real terror? one has to ask

Where are the rebels?
those who stand for the value of the heavens
you call yourselves christian; I call you forward
how can you sit and watch this reign of devils?

A year has passed, Iraq's still at war
we hear now our reasons to engage were greatly flawed
who I ask, has greater cause to live in terror?
how many more have we given a cause to die for?
